What is the difference between a cravat and an ascot tie?

#TeachingsTuesdays

Most often, men interchangeably use ‘cravat’ for ‘an ascot tie’. That is why we’re here to define each of them!

A cravat is an umbrella term for neckwear like bowties, neckerchiefs, or neckties, including ascot ties. It has its origins in France, where Croatian mercenaries used them in the seventeenth century.

On the other hand, an ascot is a special type of necktie. Though rarely found in the United States these days, men in England still prefer these ties to accessorize their morning formal dress.
