Throwback Thursdays

1960s mod, or modernist, fashion is characterized by clean lines, slim fits and narrow cuts. The style – embraced by The Who, Brian Jones and Steve McQueen – is done of the most enduring trends of the last century. Classic outfits such as box-like jackets, knitted polo shirts, tapered trousers, Italian-cut suits featured bright colors and patterns. And most of these mod-style pieces are still regulars on store shelves!

Corduroy, as a fabric, is easy to spot. These pants are great for colder weather, as they will heat up and keep your legs toasty. If you’re prepared to make an entrance and appreciate the classic design, choose to style these bottoms with a jumper button down, or blazer. These look fabulous in a casual setting, so why not pair them up with a T-shirt, loose sweatshirt and sneakers?

So, how do you get the perfect fit for your shirt?
You need to ensure the shirt fits in three key areas — chest, shoulders and neck — and then try to get as much right as possible.
The rest of your shirt can be conveniently altered by a tailor, and won’t cost you a bomb. But your chest and shoulders are usually unalterable. And collars can be altered, but it isn’t easy to do without ruining the shirt.

The art of layering
Guess what the world’s best-dressed men are all experts in layering, and it’s particularly effective for smart casual looks. Provided it’s not the height of summer. It’s the magic number for creating that all-important sense of depth. Case in point: a fine-gauge knit between an Oxford shirt and blazer transforms a default pairing, as does a collarless gilet between a roll neck and overshirt. Don’t be afraid to get creative.

In 1965, Michael Caine, the great British film icon set the fashion stage on fire when he appeared in a dark suit, white shirt, and slim dark tie; impeccable you may say, but it’s Caine’s attitude that still smolders, over half a century later.

What does business casual mean in 2020?
Experts at Bucco recommend keeping things simple. Focus on key basics and essentials such as denim or chinos and matching fitting tops, then pair them with one statement piece (best options are usually jackets and toppers). Experiment with accessories for a bit of fun, such as neckties or bow ties for men. Plus beware of going too casual and taking transitional dressing too far. And ‘Stay away from tennis shoes.’

How to wear a shirt with Chinos?
If you need to look a tad dressier then we recommend you go for a casual shirt to wear with your chinos. A linen, button-down to classic chambray shirt will go well with your chinos. Patterns and stripes are fine, but ensure not to go overboard with colour. Match blues with other shades of blues for a complete look.
