Why are wide-leg pants useful in winter?

Of course, wide leg pants give a poshy and trendy look to men. However, more than style, it is considered functionally useful during winter. And here are the two reasons: firstly, these pants are flared and align well with the bulk (two to four) apparel layered on top, and secondly, these pants are useful to hide or include the additional layers for the bottom—tights, thermal pants, etc., required for further insulation.
