When it comes to separates, there’s a golden rule to keep in mind, and that is to ensure there’s some element of difference between the upper and lower body. This could be a conspicuous gear-shift in color: a navy jacket on sky blue or a petrol blue jacket with navy chinos trousers. Conversely, you can maintain similar tones, but add some distinction with the fabric material. You can also experiment with a crosshatch pattern on the jacket or a totally different fabric.
